It seems there’s an ongoing contest open to all Apple fans and haters alike brave enough to pull practical jokes at Apple Stores. Take, for example, a prankster who jailbroke a display iPhone 4 inside one of the stores and got away with it. As noted by 9to5Mac, using browser-based JailbreakMe allowed Ethan Zachary Andrew to jailbreak an iPhone 4 phone just by visiting a page in mobile Safari while the clerks were patrolling right in front of him. According to the youngster’s Twitter profile, he’s part of a team of developers who write hacks for iPhones and iPod Touches. Way to go, Zac!
On a related note, anonymous star-crossed lovers from the Google camp pwn’d another Apple Store by installing Android-themed wallpapers on a bunch of iPads and sharing video proof with the world. Apple’s employees must have been pretty upset finding out that dozens of display units had been re-branded with their rival’s logo and captions like “Android HTC Evo, the iPhone Killer.”
