The delicate lace and ivory duchess silk, £250,000, creation by Sarah Burton for that had the nation in suspense is finally within our reach, exhibited alongside the exquisite jewellery worn on the day, including the 1936 Cartier ‘Halo’ tiara lent to Catherine by the Queen with all of its 1,000 diamonds on show.
The tickets are a rather princely price at £17.50, however it seems not to have deterred the masses. The palatial glory of the palace will surely only add to the experience of seeing these now historic pieces in reality. Sadly,Pippa Middleton’s jaw-droppingly elegant gown will not be on show, although without we are uncertain as to whether it would have the same effect on us when on a mannequin. Although Catherine’s hand-crafted lace and duchess satin court shoes will be present, stitched with the same lace as the wedding and bridesmaid dresses, created at the Royal School of needlework. It is an opportune time to really take in the detail that was hidden from eye on the fabulous day of the wedding. Perhaps what is the most impressive is the ornate decoration of the wedding cake, created by Fiona Cairns, simply magnificent. The display is part of the Summer Opening of Buckingham Palace which includes the nineteen magnificent State Rooms (with complimentary audio tour), the special exhibition Royal Fabergé, and ends with a walk along the south side of the Palace garden.
